Oct. 13th, 2001 02:17 amI sit here, at 2am and watch the world goto hell in a handbasket.
As Larry wall once said.. The road to hell is paved with melting snowballs.
Now I can be glad I live in NZ, in a small rural town. (pop 2500), with a larger town (15k?) ten minutes drive away. The world can goto hell, and i'll still be here., more or less.
I also sit and watch as Bush tries to save america by destroying it. I worry about "national ID" cards, databases, etc. People say "Oh, but if you have nothing to hide, then you don't need to worry"
Everyone has something to hide, they just don't realise it. Ask youself, would you tell a stranger _everything_ that has ever happened to you/around/ you did to someone else? Every single juicy detail.
You should be afraid.
Also, what's to say something won't become illegal, ala morality legislated.
Im gay, I don't really try to hide it, but I don't tell people unless they ask.
Homosexual "activities" are legal here in NZ, but what if the christians got power (god forbid, ironic that) and made it illegal? Suddenly im doing something "wrong" and become a criminal.
If we ever get a national database type thing with a biometric scan, the hell if im voluntarily putting ANYTHING in it.
Watch, listen. Sooner or later someone will come for you, perhaps even without you realising it.
Your every move monitored. Don't pretend "you have nothing to hide, therefore you have nothing to worry about" bullshit. Please, the next step from cameras in public, is cameras in your own house, "for your own safety". The technology doesn't work that well (yet).
Just say no.
