Even if we ignore that fact that "science" has also inspired people to do deplorable things (woohoo eugenics), the concepts of "religion" and "science" do not even remotely exist in a mutually exclusive dichotomy.

José Gabriel Funes, the director of the Vatican Observatory, has far more science cred than anyone I've ever met. He is also a (gasp!) Jesuit priest.

The conflict between science and faith is a false one. Feeding it is feeding a lie.
